What people use it for
The voices
The voices are made for heimish Yiddish, and several of them come from recordings that people in the community donated. Text to speech is still marked beta: most sentences come out clearly, but now and then a word can sound off. Each new recording makes it better — donate your voice by reading a short passage aloud.
Hebrew and English work too: choose עברית or English above the text box. The choice of voices is for Yiddish; Hebrew and English are read in one standard voice each.
Tips for the best result
- Use Yiddish letters. Romanized Yiddish (“a gutn tog”) isn't converted yet.
- Punctuate. Periods and commas help the voice pause in the right places.
- Numbers, times and dates: if one is read in a way you don't like, write it out in words.
- A word sounds wrong? Try spelling it the way it is said, or try another voice.
- Long texts (a page or more) take longer to make. Keep the page open; the progress box shows it is working.

Questions
Is there a Yiddish text to speech I can try for free?
Yes — it is free for 30 days with no credit card and no usage limit. After that it is $4 a month or $30 a year, and the same plan includes everything else on the site.
What kind of Yiddish do the voices speak?
Heimish Yiddish. The voices are made for the way Yiddish is spoken in heimish communities today (several come from recordings people in the community donated), rather than the standard (YIVO) pronunciation taught in many courses.
Can I download the audio?
Yes. After it plays, press דאונלאוד (download) to save a WAV file, or שיקט עס (Share) to send it on WhatsApp.
Is it finished?
It is marked beta. Most sentences are clear, but some words can still sound off. The voices improve as more people donate recordings.
Does it read Hebrew and English?
Yes — choose עברית or English above the text box. Hebrew and English are read in one standard voice each.
