Tips for a good phone greeting
- Say the name first. Callers want to know right away that they reached the right place.
- Keep it short. Common advice is to stay under about 30 seconds. One or two sentences per idea.
- Numbers and times: write them as words (ניין אינדערפרי) if a digit is read in a way you don't like.
- Make a few versions now — a normal one, "closed for Shabbos", and one for the next Yom Tov — so you can switch quickly.
- Listen on a phone before you publish it. Send the file to yourself and play it through the earpiece.
If your phone system rejects the file
The download is a WAV file, which many phone systems accept as is. Some ask for MP3, or for a phone-quality WAV (8 kHz, mono). A free audio editor such as Audacity can convert it: open the file, set the project rate the system asks for, and export in that format. If you get stuck, write to us with the name of your phone service.
Need the English part too? Choose English above the text box. English is read in one standard voice, so many businesses make the Yiddish and English parts as two files and have the phone system play them one after the other.

Questions
What file format is the greeting?
A WAV file. If your phone system needs MP3 or a phone-quality WAV (8 kHz mono), convert it with a free editor such as Audacity.
Can I make a Yiddish phone menu (press 1, press 2)?
Yes — use the phone menu script above, or make each option as a separate short file if your system asks for one file per option.
Can I use it for my business, or in an ad?
Yes. Business use is included in the regular plan — phone greetings and menus, ads and announcements — with no extra licence or business fee.
Can I change the greeting later?
Yes. Edit the text and make a new file whenever your hours change, before Yom Tov, or for a holiday greeting.
Will it sound like a real person?
It is a computer voice made from heimish speakers, and the text to speech is still marked beta. Listen to the whole greeting before you put it on your line, and try another voice if a word sounds off.
