Windows' own voice typing has no Yiddish (and no Hebrew) as of October 2026 — the Heimish Geredt program fills that gap.

What to expect

  • Accuracy depends on the recording. Clear speech close to the microphone gives the best text. Noise, music, several people talking at once, or a far-away speaker make it harder.
  • Heimish Yiddish, as people speak it. It was trained to write common loshn-koydesh words in their usual spelling. Check names and longer quotes from seforim most carefully.
  • What you get back: plain text you can copy, have read aloud, or send to the grammar tool with one click.
  • Not there yet: speaker labels, timestamps and Word export. Copy the text into Word or Google Docs for now.

The honest test is your own audio: try a minute of a real recording during the free month.

Questions

Can I dictate Yiddish on Windows?

Windows' own voice typing doesn't offer Yiddish (as of October 2026). The Heimish Geredt Windows program adds it: press a key, speak, and the text is typed where your cursor is.

Can I use it on a kosher flip phone?

Yes, two ways. Call 845-599-0895 from any phone and get the text by email, or install the keypad keyboard on a Kyocera flip phone. If your phone can't install apps, the phone line works on every phone.

Does it understand heimish Yiddish and loshn-koydesh words?

It is built for heimish Yiddish and trained to write common loshn-koydesh words in their usual spelling. Check names and quotes from seforim.

Can it do a long recording like a shiur?
How much does it cost?

30 days free, then $4 a month or $30 a year for everything.
