This policy explains what Heimish Geredt ("we", "us") collects when you use our Yiddish speech-to-text, text-to-speech and grammar tools — on heimishgeredt.com, in the Heimish Geredt Android app, and through our phone line, email service and other apps — why we collect it, how long we keep it, and how you can delete it. Questions: message@heimishgeredt.com.

What we collect and why

  • Account information. Your email address, your name and phone number if you give them, a 4-digit PIN (stored only as a one-way hash, never in readable form) and sign-in tokens. We use these to sign you in, to keep one account across our website, apps, phone line and email service, and to track your free trial and subscription.
  • Device and connection information. A random identifier our website or app creates for your device, your IP address and your device or browser type. We use these to keep you signed in, to link your devices to your account so it can be restored on a new device, to prevent repeated free trials, and for security.
  • Audio you record or upload. When you use speech-to-text, your recording is sent to our servers and transcribed by our own speech recognition system (on our servers, or on a cloud GPU provider when ours are busy). Large files you upload are stored with our storage provider under a random, unlisted address so they can be processed; they are not deleted automatically at this time — email us and we will remove them.
  • Text you submit. Text you enter for text-to-speech or grammar correction is sent to our servers to be processed.
  • Recent transcription log. To check quality and fix problems, our system keeps a log of the most recent 300 transcriptions across all users, including their text. Only our administrator can see it, and older entries are overwritten automatically.
  • Things you choose to save. Transcripts, recordings and generated speech that you save to your account are kept until you delete them or your account.
  • The phone line. Calls to our phone line (845-599-0895) run on Twilio, and your recorded message is transcribed by our own speech recognition system. Two outside services are also used, only for the phone line: ElevenLabs receives the short recordings of you saying your email address, your name, or another person's email address (if you ask the line to send the text to someone else), and turns them into text; when our own voice server is unavailable, ElevenLabs also makes the line's spoken instructions, which can include your email address and name being read back to you. OpenAI receives the text of your transcript only if you ask the line for a translation, and sends back the translation. Neither receives any other personal information from us.
  • Shared clips. If you press "שיקט עס" (Share) on a text-to-speech result and a link is made, the audio is stored under a random, unlisted address (heimishgeredt.com/s/…) so that the people you send the link to can play it. Anyone who has the link can hear the audio; the text is not shown. The link stops working and the audio is deleted after 30 days, and you can delete it sooner with "מעקט אויס דעם לינק". On a phone, Share normally sends the file straight from your phone, and nothing is uploaded.
  • "Email me this" and email news. If you ask us to email you a result, or to tell you about new voices or Chanukah greetings, we keep your email address, your language, what you asked for, and a record of your consent: when, on which page, the wording you agreed to, and the first part of your IP address. We only email an address after it has been confirmed by tapping the link we send (or when you are signed in with it). Until then, a result you asked us to email is kept for up to 7 days and then deleted. Every email has an unsubscribe link; after you unsubscribe we keep only a note that you did, so that we don't email you again.
  • Recordings you choose to donate. If you use the "Donate your voice" page, the recordings you donate are kept and used to improve our Yiddish speech models.
  • Usage and diagnostics. Our website records technical errors and how its pages are used — page visits, clicks, and recordings of the page session, which can include text shown or typed on the page, together with copies of the audio you record or upload and the speech you generate — so we can see what went wrong and fix problems. These are kept for up to 30 days. Fields for PINs, passwords, email addresses and phone numbers are masked and never recorded.
  • Payments. Subscriptions are paid on our website and processed by Stripe; we never receive your card number. We keep whether your subscription is active. The Android app does not sell anything.

We do not use your data for advertising, we do not show ads, and we do not sell or rent personal information.

Who processes data for us

We use service providers that handle data only to run our service: Supabase (database and file storage), Netlify and Google Firebase (website hosting and servers), RunPod (cloud GPUs for transcription when our own servers are busy), Stripe (payments on our website), SendGrid (email), Twilio (our phone line), and, for the phone line only, ElevenLabs (recognising a spoken email address or name, and a backup voice for the line's instructions) and OpenAI (translations, only when you ask for one). We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Account information is kept until you delete your account. Audio and text sent for processing are not kept after processing, except as described above (uploaded files, the recent transcription log, items you save, recordings you donate, and the diagnostics copies). Usage and diagnostics data is kept for up to 30 days. Shared clip links last 30 days. A result waiting for you to confirm your email is kept for up to 7 days. Email list records are kept until you unsubscribe, and then only as a do-not-email note.

Deleting your account and data

You can delete your account at any time, in the app or on the website: open the menu at the bottom of any page and choose "אויסמעקן אקאונט" (Delete account), or go directly to heimishgeredt.com/delete-account.html. This immediately deletes your account, your saved items and their audio, your history and credits, and the links between your devices, phone number and your email. We keep only two small records: the date your free trial started (so a new account on the same email does not restart the trial) and your subscription status (for accounting and legal reasons). You can also email message@heimishgeredt.com to ask us to delete your data, including uploaded files and donated recordings.

Children

Our service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

All connections use HTTPS, PINs are stored only as hashes, and access to stored data is restricted to our administrator and the providers listed above.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page with a new effective date.
